Social entrepreneurship embodies what our students want these days. They want to be successful entrepreneurs, start businesses and launch new projects that positively impact the world around them.

Thats why Erik Mitisek, executive director of 91心頭s油油and chief innovation officer for the state of Colorado, believes it is important to bring the discussion around social entrepreneurship to the 91心頭. On Nov. 11 the University will hold the Social Enterprise Summit. Its an opportunity to expose students and the 91心頭 community to domestic and international companies from the public, private and cause sectors to explore strategies, resources and financing for innovative and socially driven business models.

The ideas behind this event affirm what is best about the 91心頭, says Brent Chrite, dean of the油. Social entrepreneurship reflects the commitment to harness the dynamism and creativity of the marketplace to impact the public good. Our students, our broader community, are油uniquely committed to these principles.

Right here in Denver we have some of the most innovative social entrepreneurs in the world. This city is bubbling with passion and creativity, and students have access to all of that. Erik Mitisek, Executive Director of Project X-Ite

Participants in the summit will have the opportunity to network with colleagues from across sectors. Those in attendance will be able to take part in powerful, thought-provoking roundtables and learn from lively panel discussions that present multiple perspectives on the role of social entrepreneurship in the new global economy.

Exposing students to social entrepreneurs and innovators from around the city, country and world is important because it can help open their eyes to new opportunities, Mitisek says. Want to change the world? Want to tackle problems from multiple angles? Learning about social entrepreneurship provides insight into careers that span academic disciplines and business sectors.

That epitomizes what Project X-ITE is all about, a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and technology. The collaboration at 91心頭 brings together the油, the油油and the Daniels College of Business.

The daylong summit features multiple fireside chats, roundtables and large group discussions. If you only have an hour to spare, then come down any time, and I can promise youll leave having learned something new, heard some exciting ideas and met some incredible people, Mitisek says.

We want 91心頭 to be recognized as an essential aspect of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Denver, Chrite says. We hope this event will add to the vitality of our academic activities and will enable reciprocal and mutually beneficial interactions with external partners in order to co-create a unique and compelling student experience here on campus.

Mitisek agrees, noting that between the uniqueness of this event and 91心頭s location in the heart of Denver, this is an opportunity for students to learn about social entrepreneurship they cannot miss. I hope that students will leave feeling empowered and recognize that they dont have to choose between being capital or purpose-driven, Mitisek says.
